Help to plan the future of Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes Council is starting to prepare a new local plan for the Borough, called Plan:MK. To help them understand what issues the plan should cover and what you think about how they should approach those issues, they have prepared a series of Topic Papers (which you can view and download by clicking on the links under the “Documents” section on their website). These Topic Papers cover a broad range of subjects and include questions to help them understand your thoughts on how they might plan for the future of Milton Keynes.

A summary leaflet of the consultation also containing a brief description of each Topic Paper can be viewed at:

What will Plan:MK do?

Once adopted, Plan:MK will…

Decide how much new development is needed and where it should go

Include detailed policies that will be used when making decisions on planning applications.

Consultation on the Topic Papers

Consultation on these Topic Papers is running for a twelve-week period, from mid-September until Wednesday 3rd December 2014. You can comment on the papers online through our consultation portal which makes it much easier for us to process your comments. You can access the portal at

You can also email your comments to them at or send a letter, to Development Plans, Milton Keynes Council, Civic Offices, 1 Saxon Gate East, Central Milton Keynes, MK9 3EJ.

There is a lot of information in the Topic Papers and you may only want to look at one or two depending on which issues you are particularly interested in. You can respond to as many or as few of the Topic Papers as you like.

You may find it useful to read “The Way Forward” topic paper in particular as this draws together the key issues from all of the other papers and asks important questions about where new development could take place.

A document outlining all the questions asked in the Topic Papers can be viewed at; Plan:MK Topic Paper Questions. It should however be noted that these questions should be read and answered alongside the information presented in the relevant Topic Paper.

If you want to be added to their database, and be kept up-to-date with future stages in the Plan:MK process, you can register through the portal at or drop them an email to

All comments must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 3rd December 2014. Comments cannot be kept confidential, but your details will only be used by the Development Plans team for their work in preparing planning policies for the Borough.
