Today I met with the allotment holders at the Parish Allotment site off Rushey Way in Loughton.
Ken Vaughan acts as a voluntary coordinator for the Parish allotments and he is doing a great job keeping the site in good condition.
The site is popular, with currently a waiting list of 18 people. There are about 35 plots although most of the plots are really half plots. It was good to see almost every plot in cultivation, and many in very good condition indeed.
We discussed the issues at the site at the moment. The neighbouring trees are shading some areas so I am going to liaise with the MK Council tree officer to see if they can be thinned a little more.
I am going to confer with colleagues as to whether we can provide a skip to help dispose of accumulated rubbish – which should hopefully keep the site in good repair.
I’d like to see another site brought into use – perhaps a bid for lottery funding might provide sufficient funds to get this off the ground. Watch this space.
