What is a Parish Council?
Parish Councils are the first level of local government and deliver a range of services to meet local needs. Although our powers are relatively limited, it is an important forum for local discussion and accountability. The public are welcome to attend our meetings; our aim is to provide services to the residents of the Parish which you think are important and that make your quality of life better.
How often do you meet?
The Parish Council has returned to holding meetings at the Community Centre in Great Holm, and alternate months at the Memorial Hall in Loughton on a monthly basis. Full details and location can be found on the meetings page
Where does the Parish Cover?
Loughton and Great Holm Parish Council is one of 48 Parish Councils in the Borough of Milton Keynes and comprises 10 Councillors who are elected every four years. The population is around 7,000 and the Parish Council is spread over 352 hectares or 875 acres.
The Parish covers the grid squares of Loughton, Great Holm, West Rooksley, Knowlhill, Elfield Park & the Milton Keynes Bowl. The boundaries are the West Coast Main Railway Line, H4 Dansteed Way, V4 Watling Street and H8 Standing Way.
Loughton is an ancient village and All Saints Church dates from the 13th century. Today, Loughton is a residential area, which includes an Equestrian Centre, the Parish’s allotments and numerous pony paddocks managed by The Parks Trust.
Great Holm is a residential area with a high point overlooking the central area of Milton Keynes. The Parish Council owns and runs the Community Centre and there is a Macintyre Charity have a base here working with people with learning disabilities, and run a popular coffee shop.
Loughton Lodge is separated from Great Holm by Lodge Lake. Loughton Lodge is home to the National Badminton Centre, Girl Guides centre and a small residential area.
Knowlhill is an employment area with parkland including Teardrop Lakes.
Elfield is a nature park close to the Bowl.
West Rooksley is the home of Daytona Milton Keynes
