2nd Loughton Scarecrow Trail, 2015

Scarecrow Trail 2015

Theme – ‘Book, Play or Film’

Closing Date for Entries, May 1st 2015
Judging, Friday 3rd July
Trail open, Saturday 4th to Saturday 11th July.

Once again, All Saints’ Church Loughton, Milton Keynes, is hosting a Scarecrow Trail in the village this summer, in aid of church funds. Although the trail is a church initiative, this is an inclusive event that everyone living or working in the Civil Parish of Loughton and Great Holm can enjoy. The theme for this year’s trail is, ‘Book Play or Film’. As before, scarecrow building will be competitive, with prizes for the best scarecrows in four categories; Unassisted Child / Children, Adults / Families, Local Businesses and Charitable Organizations and Schools. There will also be a ‘Visitors’ Choice’.

This year’s route is likely to be as described on the Entry Form. Scarecrows made by exhibitors who either live outside Loughton or reside at locations that cannot easily be accommodated on the trail, will be displayed at All Saints’ Church or hosted in gardens along the trail.

To register a scarecrow into the competitions and have it recorded on the trail, competitors should complete the Entry Form (below) and return it to the trail’s organiser, Julienne Thom, at 7 Lucy Lane, MK5 8EP, by May 1st. There is an entry fee of £5.00 per scarecrow. All the entry fees will be donated to All Saints’ Church funds. Additional Entry Forms can be picked up from All Saints’ Church Porch, facing onto School Lane, from 7 Lucy Lane, or downloaded from the trail’s blog, at allsaintsloughton.blogspot.com

Judging will take place on the afternoon of Friday 3rd July. The trail will open on Saturday 4th July at 10.00 a.m. and will finish at 5.00 p.m. on Saturday 11th July at 5.00 p.m. Scarecrows should be on display in people’s gardens throughout the period that the trail is open to the public.

The trail will start and finish at All Saints’ Church. Trail Guides can be purchased from the Church at a cost of £2.00, on the weekends that the trail is open, and refreshments will also be on offer during the afternoons of both weekends. The event will conclude with a Scarecrows’ Supper on the evening of Saturday 11th July, hosted by All Saints’ Church, at which the Visitors’ Choice will be announced. Tickets for this will go on sale during June.

If you have any comments or suggestions to make, require further information or would like to take part in Loughton’s scarecrow trail, please contact Julienne Thom by phone on 01908 696072 or drop her an email at j.hanson@ucl.ac.uk
